Best known for his work as a drummer and singer for Band of Gypsys led by Jimi Hendrix and for voicing “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” in a classic animated California Raisins TV commercial, Buddy Miles’ talents are multiple and his influence is widespread. He was also an accomplished guitarist, songwriter and founder of bands including The Buddy Miles Express and The Electric Flag.

His industry admirers and friends were many. Renowned musician Bootsy Collins of Parliament/Funkadelic recalls: “Buddy was not only a hard hitting, energetic, power-packed, angry, loveable, unstoppable drummer, he was also my friend..."

The evening will be emceed by Detroit’s top Rock DJ the “Doc of Rock” Doug Podell of 106.7 WLLZ and hosted by Slight Return, the Prestige Awards Midwest Band of the Year, as the house band led by their musical director Mark Kassa.

A stellar lineup of musicians will feature throughout the show including Jim McCarty, the original guitarist of Buddy Miles Express, 11-time Grammy winner Tony Lindsay, recognized as the longest-tenured vocalist for Carlos Santana, legendary drummer Dennis Chambers of Parliament/Funkadelic and Santana, Kenny Olson, recognized for his years supporting Kid Rock, Derek St. Holmes, famed for his association with Ted Nugent, Lance Lopez member of Band of Trouble with Buddy Miles, Henri Brown, with a history of recording and touring alongside Buddy Miles, percussionist Juma Sultan, whose connection with Buddy Miles and Jimi Hendrix began in the late 1960s, Peter Keys of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Norwood Fisher of Fishbone round out the exceptional roster.
