The Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony

The Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony has provided a challenging musical experience for interested students since 1982.  As one of the oldest youth symphonies in Michigan, the organization is recognized for the outstanding accomplishments of its four student orchestras, its encouragement of the talent and musical development of its student members, for the organizations's commitment to excellence, and for its leadership in music education.  MYS provides an atmosphere that promotes a high level of musicianship in their students.  The Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony is a non-profit organization, fully parent-run, requiring parents to fill the jobs needed to run their performance season.  They hire amazing Conductors to mentor, teach and direct students in grades 1-12, in (4) different orchestras. MYS Conductors are highly qualified musicians chosen for their expertise in working with young people, with two full orchestras and two string orchestras:  Jr. String for grades 1-5, String for grades 5-9, Concert for grades 8-12 and Symphony for grades 10-12.  With weekly Saturday morning rehearsals September through May in the Farmington Hills area, MYS perform three concerts annually at different venues in metropolitan Detroit.  Upcoming is the January 26, 2014 concert at the Michael A. Guido Theater at 2pm and at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts on May 4, 2014 at 2pm.  For more information regarding tickets and auditions, please visit www.detroitmys.org
